Overhead Garage Storage in Raleigh, North Carolina FAQs

Question 1

Does Elite Garage & Closets install overhead garage storage in Raleigh, North Carolina?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Elite Garage & Closets designs and professionally installs stationary and motorized overhead garage storage systems in Raleigh, Cary, Durham, and surrounding North Carolina communities.

Question 2

What types of overhead garage storage are available?

Accepted Answer

Elite Garage & Closets offers two primary types of overhead storage: stationary ceiling-mounted racks and motorized platform storage lifters.

Question 3

What is a stationary overhead garage rack?

Accepted Answer

A stationary overhead rack is a fixed steel storage platform mounted near the garage ceiling. It is commonly accessed with a ladder and is designed to hold storage bins, seasonal belongings, and other appropriate items.

Question 4

What is motorized overhead garage storage?

Accepted Answer

Motorized overhead storage uses a powered lifting system to lower a storage platform for loading and raise it toward the ceiling when storage is complete.

Question 5

What is the difference between stationary and motorized overhead storage?

Accepted Answer

Stationary racks remain fixed near the ceiling and are generally accessed with a ladder. Motorized platforms move up and down through a powered lifting system, making stored belongings easier to load and retrieve.

Question 6

What are the benefits of overhead garage storage?

Accepted Answer

Overhead storage uses otherwise underutilized ceiling space, moves bulky belongings off the floor, increases usable parking and walking areas, and keeps storage bins organized and accessible.

Question 7

Can overhead storage create more garage floor space?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Moving storage bins, camping equipment, seasonal decorations, luggage, and other belongings onto ceiling-mounted platforms can reclaim substantial floor space.

Question 8

Can overhead storage create more parking space?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Moving bulky or infrequently used belongings above the floor can make it easier to park vehicles and maintain clear walking paths.

Question 9

Can overhead garage storage reduce clutter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Overhead racks provide designated storage for bins and bulky belongings that might otherwise be stacked on the garage floor or against walls.

Question 10

What items are best stored on overhead garage racks?

Accepted Answer

Overhead racks are well suited for storage bins, seasonal decorations, camping equipment, luggage, coolers, sports equipment, and other bulky or less frequently used belongings.

Question 11

Can overhead racks store frequently used items?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The racks can hold both long-term storage and appropriate everyday belongings, although frequently used items should be positioned where they can be accessed safely.

Question 12

Can overhead racks store holiday decorations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Labeled bins containing holiday decorations are commonly stored on overhead platforms because they are generally needed only during certain times of the year.

Question 13

Can overhead racks store camping equipment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Appropriate racks can organize tents, sleeping bags, folding chairs, coolers, and other camping equipment when the total load remains within the system's capacity.

Question 14

Can overhead racks store luggage?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Luggage and travel containers are commonly placed on overhead racks to preserve wall and floor space.

Question 15

Can overhead racks store sports equipment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Appropriate sports equipment and storage containers may be placed on overhead racks when the load is secure and remains within the stated weight capacity.

Question 16

What should not be stored on an overhead rack?

Accepted Answer

Avoid storing items that exceed the rack's capacity, are unstable, contain prohibited hazardous materials, could leak, or cannot be safely lifted and secured. Follow all manufacturer and installer instructions.

Accepted Answer

A motorized platform may make appropriate heavy belongings easier to access because it can lower for loading. The selected model's capacity and operating instructions must still be followed.

Question 19

What are the overhead racks made from?

Accepted Answer

The overhead racks use powder-coated, industrial-grade steel frames designed for durable residential garage storage.

Question 20

Are the overhead racks industrial strength?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Elite Garage & Closets describes the racks as industrial-grade steel storage platforms designed to hold hundreds of pounds when properly mounted and loaded.

Question 21

Why are the overhead racks powder coated?

Accepted Answer

Powder coating creates a durable finished surface on the steel frame and helps protect it during normal indoor garage use.

Question 22

Are overhead garage racks corrosion resistant?

Accepted Answer

The powder-coated steel construction is designed to resist corrosion during normal indoor garage use. Persistent moisture, harsh chemicals, and damage to the finish should still be avoided.

Question 23

What is the two-inch safety lip on an overhead rack?

Accepted Answer

The rack platform includes a two-inch raised lip designed to help keep storage bins and other belongings within the platform area.

Question 24

Does the safety lip prevent every item from falling?

Accepted Answer

No. The two-inch lip helps contain appropriate storage, but belongings must still be loaded securely, kept within the platform edges, and arranged according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Question 25

Can overhead racks be customized?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Rack placement, platform configuration, mounting style, height, and the number of connected rack sections can be customized for the garage.

Question 26

Can multiple overhead racks be connected?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Eight-foot rack sections can be combined with additional racks to create larger storage platforms when the garage structure and layout support the design.

Question 27

Can overhead storage be expanded later?

Accepted Answer

Additional compatible rack sections may be installed later when sufficient ceiling space, structural mounting points, clearance, and product availability remain.

Question 28

What size is the motorized storage platform?

Accepted Answer

The motorized platform featured on the Raleigh page measures four feet by eight feet.

Question 29

What size are the stationary overhead racks?

Accepted Answer

The page describes eight-foot rack sections and references four-foot-by-eight-foot overhead units. The final dimensions should be confirmed for the selected system and garage layout.

Question 30

How much weight can a ceiling-mounted 4-by-8 overhead rack hold?

Accepted Answer

The Raleigh page states that a four-foot-by-eight-foot stationary unit can hold up to 750 pounds when suspended entirely from the ceiling, subject to proper installation and load distribution.

Question 31

Why does wall-supported overhead storage have a different capacity?

Accepted Answer

A wall-supported configuration uses both wall and ceiling mounting points, which may allow a different rated capacity than a platform suspended only from the ceiling.

Question 33

How much weight can the motorized overhead storage lift?

Accepted Answer

The Raleigh page displays different motorized ratings in separate sections. Customers should confirm the exact lifting and storage capacity of the specific motorized platform included in their proposal.

Question 34

Why should I confirm the motorized platform capacity?

Accepted Answer

Motorized capacity can vary by model, platform, mounting configuration, and product version. The written proposal and manufacturer documentation should identify the exact rating for the selected system.

Question 35

Does the maximum rack capacity require evenly distributed weight?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Loads should be distributed appropriately across the platform. Concentrated loads and unusually heavy objects should be reviewed with the installer.

Question 36

Can I load a rack beyond its stated capacity?

Accepted Answer

No. An overhead rack or motorized platform should never be loaded beyond the rating stated in the product documentation and installation proposal.

Question 37

Does the rack capacity include the weight of the platform?

Accepted Answer

The applicable product documentation should clarify whether the rating refers to stored cargo or the complete installed load. Customers should follow the specific instructions supplied with their system.

Question 38

How does a motorized overhead storage rack work?

Accepted Answer

A powered pulley-style lifting system raises and lowers the storage platform so belongings can be loaded closer to floor level and stored near the ceiling.

Question 39

Are motorized overhead racks controlled by an app?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Raleigh page states that its motorized overhead racks can be raised and lowered through an app installed on a compatible phone.

Question 40

Can the motorized platform lower to the garage floor?

Accepted Answer

The featured motorized platform is designed to lower for easier loading and then raise stored belongings toward the ceiling.

Question 41

Do motorized racks eliminate the need for a ladder?

Accepted Answer

Motorized platforms can reduce the need to carry belongings up a ladder because the platform lowers for loading. Users must still follow all operating and safety instructions.

Question 42

Are motorized overhead racks easier for heavy belongings?

Accepted Answer

They can make appropriate belongings easier to load because the platform lowers. Items must remain within the selected system's weight rating and be positioned securely.

Question 43

Can a motorized rack be operated without a smartphone?

Accepted Answer

The page identifies app-based control. Alternative controls, compatibility requirements, and backup operating methods should be confirmed for the selected model.

Accepted Answer

Use an appropriate ladder on a stable surface, avoid carrying loads that impair balance, and follow the rack, ladder, and installation safety instructions.

Question 51

Can overhead racks be installed above a garage door?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The page describes ceiling-mounted racks positioned above the garage door when it is open, provided sufficient height, structure, and operating clearance are available.

Question 52

Can overhead storage work around garage-door tracks?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A custom design can account for door tracks, springs, panels, openers, support brackets, and required operating clearances.

Question 53

Can overhead racks be installed above parked vehicles?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when sufficient clearance exists between the vehicle, platform, stored belongings, garage door, and ceiling.

Question 57

Can overhead storage be installed around attic access?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if the layout preserves safe and practical access to the attic opening and does not interfere with the ladder, hatch, or required clearance.

Question 58

Can overhead storage be installed near lights or sprinklers?

Accepted Answer

The design must maintain appropriate clearance from lighting, sprinkler heads, detectors, ventilation equipment, and other ceiling systems.

Question 59

Can overhead storage be installed around HVAC equipment?

Accepted Answer

The layout can account for ducts, vents, air handlers, and other mechanical equipment while preserving required airflow, access, and service clearances.

Question 60
